Intercultural Psychotherapy

First of all, I would like to clarify that I am aware of the fact that culturalization can also be a form of racism, discrimination and exclusion. However, it is the ascribing and essentializing process that leads to the reproduction of unjust structures and not the fact that there are differences that can be explained by different socializations. Just as is it the case in anti racist communication, it is important here to understand and find out exactly from which speaker´s position what is being described by whom and what is being experienced as a challenge by whom.

CULTURALLY SENSITIVE COMMUNICATION

Psychotherapy ideally adds tot the development of personal competencies, and in Intercultural Psychotherapy, information about different communication patterns, an understanding of different family contexts, and also self-perception patterns are incorporated as needed. I distinguish culturally sensitive communication mindfully from "cultural knowledge" and "cultural identity" topics.

The challenge, in my experience, is, to use the essentializing or potentially essentializing findings from intercultural research areas in such a way that they become fruitful for intercultural interaction situations - and empower you. These tits and bits of information have the potential to help understand situations of speechlessness e.g. differently and thus to cope with these situations better.
