Methods
and Tools

All tools and methods have to do with communication. Communication between us or within us. My most important method, which I have been using since 2005, is hypno-systemic conversation according to Milton Erickson. Connected to this method are ethical principles and a model of how people and systems relate to each other. I integrate all other tools and approaches on this basis.

Hypno-systemic Conversation

acc. Milton Erickson

Was ist hypno-systemische Kommunikation?

Hypno-systemic conversation is a method to create a supportive dialogue. The aim of this method is to "direct" the client's attention to solutions. To do this, I ask questions above all: questions that enable seeking solutions. This approach is based on the idea that every human being is largely unconsciously self-regulating.

What happens in our Conversations?

In conversation, we search for those interfaces most appropriate for you to address consciously to influence your self-regulation, to identify solutions. This is done primarily through the ability of each person to direct his or her attention.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis in the "narrower" sense means to create a sleep-like state. The body is deeply relaxed and, depending on the depth of relaxation, the consciousness is sometimes more and sometimes less awake. "Hypnotic" work in the broader, far more frequent sense, produces a changed state of attention differing from everyday consciousness. This is only possible with the consent of the person being hypnotized, who then goes into a kind of trance. This helps to more easily bring the (mostly logical) conscious and the (mostly holistic/emotive) unconscious into a good balance.

Working with deep relaxation is not always necessary, nor may it in very rare cases even be possible.

What is helpful about hypno-systemic conversation?

Very often it is the "simple" conversation that is helpful. Systemic work is solution-oriented and seeks to understand the wider context, the system, through specific questions. Based on the assumption that a person always regulates him- or herself for a good goal or reason in a way that may only seem problematic in a specific context, problems are also seen as solutions for something that has not yet been understood positively. For this purpose, it sometimes makes sense to recognize, acknowledge and appreciate old patterns in depth; and sometimes it makes sense to head directly towards the goal. The conversation "swings" back and forth between different interfaces and states of attention until you feel a clear direction emerge to shape your everyday life.

Is Hypnosis always necessary?

Working with deep relaxation is not always necessary, nor may it in very rare cases even be possible. Very often it is the conversation as such from which you benefit most. Systemic conversations are always target-focussed and explores with the help of mindful questions the relevant factors in the big picture of your life.

Based on the assumption there is a good reason for the kind of selfregulation of an individual a “problem” is being viewed as a solution at the same time. Maybe the “solution” is simply not recognized as such for the moment

Sometimes it is useful to understand underlying behavioural patterns more deeply, sometimes getting to the goal directly is more helpful. Depending on your needs we utilize different states of mind and foci until you feel clear about your solution and are able to connect with your inner strength with ease.

Relaxation Methods

Who would not like to lead a relaxed life? This is possible when we can recover from our efforts. After all, a healthy amount of effort in life makes us happy and self-confident. By learning relaxation techniques, we can not only regenerate but also regulate our emotions more easily.

Breathing techniques

  • Progressive muscle relaxation

  • Autogenic training

  • Tips to learn Self-hypnosis

  • Guided deep relaxation

  • Laughter Yoga

The use of relaxation techniques allows you to get easier access of your unconscious inner images and deeply rooted beliefs and you can learn influence them. Many people who initially think, "Nonsense," realize after a short period of time how helpful relaxation method which suits them individually is. Once you found your technique to relax you really have the most important tool in your own hand to overcome many challenges independently. People like me become virtually superfluous.

EMDR

Eye-movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

HOW DOES EMDR WORK?

In EMDR, stressful memories are linked to helpful memories via bilateral stimulation of the brain (originally, the eyes moved back and forth regularly). The effectiveness of EMDR is scientifically evaluated differently.

EMDR IS A PROCEDURE BASED ON TWO BASIC ASSUMPTIONS:

1. the brain stores experiences as networks. These memories can be activated by external stimuli, usually in a goal-directed manner, but sometimes in a less goal-directed manner. Thereby our behaviour is significantly controlled.

2. it is possible to link stressful memory networks with strengthening networks, so that specific external stimuli do not (have to) lead to further stressful experiences. The procedure is therefore first of all to find, work out and anchor strengthening, helpful and goal-oriented memories of the client.

WHEN IS EMDR USEful?

EMDR was originally used primarily for processing traumatising experiences. In the meantime, research shows that EMDR can be helpful with other challenges.

I use EMDR mainly to discover and anchor strengthening aspects. Just like tapping techniques, it seems that a kind of "distraction factor" and simultaneous awareness of a stressful event, helps to cope with more painful issues.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT?

When we work with EMDR or similar methods, it is important to me that the appropriate and important strengths can be retrieved in advance. And afterwards, the results can also be discussed with me.
